My students love Doodle Notes. Knowing how long it takes to create them, I'd love to come up with a strategy that helps them learn to create their own version of doodle notes so they can become more self-reliant. Not everyone is an artist, though.

Hi Stacie!
Yes, this is possible (more of a sketchnotes exercise), where students start with a blank paper. But it can be pretty intense to try to teach the kids the basics of sketchnotes to get them to the point of structuring it all themselves. I like to pre-create the guided pages, just because both ways are time consuming, and I always tend to choose spending more of my own time at home compared to taking class time. The time with the kids is just so precious! But, I do like your thoughts about self-reliance. A blend of both strategies would be nice, because they really can carry their visual note-taking skills to college and beyond!
